According to community reports across the U.S., nearly 20 million kids are considered at-risk. That is nearly half of every elementary classroom of 30 students. The statistics are staggering!
A one-on-one mentoring relationship can change the trajectory of a child’s life. Big Hope is a partnership between Kids Hope USA and Big Brother Big Sisters and empowers church-school partnership to equip people like you to make a difference in the lives of children in our community!
VRBC mentors spend one hour per week doing mentoring and educational assistance in a relationship that could change the course of the future for both of them!
MAKING AN IMPACT—ONE CHILD AT A TIME!
Now you can participate. As a volunteer, it’s simple to be involved. Each child is supported by a Mentor and a Prayer Partner. Each role is equally important. The key is choosing which role is best for you. As a result, you will make a difference in the lives of children in our community!
You may mentor on whichever weekday works best with your schedule. Because we mentor during the student’s lunch and recess time, the exact time will be determined by the student’s school schedule, which varies by grade. Big Hope follows the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD schedule, so mentoring takes place only during the school year, and excluding school holidays.
DURING THE PANDEMIC
Big Hope program have always mentored children in person; however, during the pandemic we will mentor under the school’s guidelines and requirements. Our desire is for the students we mentor to know we care and know we want to connect with them – even if it’s different for a while. We’ve been in contact with our partners in Kids Hope USA and Big Brother Big Sisters and have been reviewing several options from online mentoring to old-school pen-pals.
