It started, like a lot of movements do, on the West Coast. In the late 1960s, some hippies found Jesus, and many young Christians discovered the counterculture. And a movement was born. Some people called them “Jesus freaks.” Others called them “Jesus People.” They started churches, formed Christian rock bands, and held massive rallies and conferences across the land. They gave us some great musicians, like Andre Crouch and Keith Green. And, as these things go, they probably left behind some less than savory legacies as well.
But when I hear that phrase “Jesus people,” I don’t think of long-haired boys with torn bell bottom jeans making the “peace sign” with their right hands while carrying the Bible in their left hand. No, I think the phrase “Jesus people” is the best two word description of what you and I are called to be. We are to be the original “Jesus people” – enlisted by Jesus, cleansed by his grace, soaked in his teaching, filled with his Spirit, fired up by his mission, and sharing his contagious gospel with our world. Join us as we go through the gospel of Mark and discover how to truly be “Jesus People.”
