For several years, VRBC has taken mission trips to various cities in Peru through e3 Partners and Buckner International. As a result, several longer-term relationships and projects have emerged. Over the next year, we will be exploring ways we can make these partnerships and mission trips more strategic to have an even greater Kingdom impact. Check out the information below, and come back to visit this website periodically for new developments in this exciting venture.
La Tienda de Navidad: Peru Christmas Store
Since 2006, VRBC has partnered with sister church El Buen Pastor to offer a Christmas Store for poor children in the coastal district called Chorrillos, in Peru’s capital city of Lima. The Peru Christmas Store has grown to serve almost 300 children. In the same manner as VRBC’s local Christmas Store, the Peruvian children receive a toy, a t-shirt, and pair of socks. GPS (Guide, Pray, Serve) volunteers form relationships with those they serve and have the opportunity to pray together, share the Gospel, and give a Spanish Bible to each family. Buckner International has partnered with this project since its inception and also provides shoes on a separate afternoon of activities.
To continue ministering to the children who benefit from La Tienda de Navidad, VRBC member Janis Townsend and El Buen Pastor volunteer Lou Conde-Sandoval developed a non-profit ministry called Common Hope. This ministry provides a summer program with activities and summer camp, as well as homework help and music classes during the school year. Peace Child International awarded them a grant to build a community garden. To learn more about these ministries, contact Janis Townsend at firstname.lastname@example.org.
