Day 5 : Sharon Bartley

Our family has been blessed by VRBC since 2000. One of the greatest gifts has been the ministry to my children. They were all baptized here, discipled by loving adults on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and through 86:12, and grew through opportunities to serve and lead.  I attribute much of who they’ve become to VRBC’s investment in them.

In addition to the lifelong friends we have made, my greatest joys are the Big Hope mentoring program and ESL (English as a Second Language) ministries. I have a fear of public speaking, so even though the Lord was tugging at my heart, I delayed involvement in ESL. I finally got the nerve up to sub and have loved it from Day One.  The Lord has charged us to go out and share the good news with the nations and now they have come to us! My class has students from Venezuela, Guatemala, Iraq, Korea, Japan, China, and more. We are a hodgepodge of diverse and disconnected folks for sure. Each student is a joy, and I learn so much from them.

The Big Hope mentoring ministry is my passion and purpose. I am so grateful for the response of this congregation to the needs of children, and each time I walk in that mentoring room, it warms my heart. Thank you VRBC!
